Animals abandon their young for many reasons. Natural selection favors the mother mammals that selectively abandon the weakest of their newborns to make sure that they can adequately provide for the rest.

Dragon’s mother gave birth to twins. She chose to abandon the fawn that looked different, in order to devote her time and energy to feed and protect the one with better chances of survival.

Thankfully, Hilary Powell was there to rescue little Dragon from his unfortunate circumstances.

Dragon is truly thriving at Deer Tracks Junction. Because of his condition, the rare baby deer is getting a little extra attention and is being closely monitored.

The blue-eyed fawn is being fed four times a day and will soon be ready to join the other deer on premises and meet the farm visitors.
