A formerly abused shelter dog called Peanut is being hailed a hero after saving a 3-year-old girl’s life.
Peanut was brought into the Delta Animal Shelter in Michigan when she was a 4-month-old puppy. She had two broken legs and several broken ribs caused by her previous owners. After nursing her back to health, the caring shelter staff found a safe, loving home for her.
Peanut received a new chance at life. Little could anyone have guessed that she would pay it forward in such a heart-warming manner.
Earlier this week, the pooch saved the life of a 3-year-old girl who was lying naked in a ditch, in 32 degrees weather.
“I think she still has some ‘sixth sense’ about her past life that she has carried with her. Today, Peanut was responsible for saving the life of a 3-year-old little girl. At about 11 am this morning, Peanut started going crazy at our house. She was running up and down the stairs, barking and yelping. She then went and got my husband, who was in the garage working on some projects, and alerted him that she wanted to go outside. He said he could hear her running around upstairs but didn’t understand why. He let her outside where she went barreling into the field behind our house at full speed. My husband followed her and to his surprise, he found a naked, shivering, 3-year-old girl curled up in a ball,” one of the dog’s owners said.

The man wrapped the little girl in his sweatshirt, rushed her inside, and immediately reported the incident.
“By the time the ambulance and police arrived, the little girl could only say one thing – ‘doggie’,” one of Peanut’s owners recalls.
Thankfully, the girl was uninjured. Deputies from the Delta County Sheriff’s Office found the girl’s parents at a nearby residence. The investigation unveiled that the child was living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The rescued 3-year-old and her older sister were placed under the care of Child Protective Services. According to the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, the case has been sent to the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
“Thanks to Peanut, a little girl’s life was saved. She has been such a blessing to us, and now to others,” the pup’s owners said.
